Description
While we first produced this wine in 1983, it has actually only been a Brunello since 1995 due to a change in the aging in oak regulations for the production of Brunello which were reduced to 2 years. This modern expression of Brunello gained fame when President Obama gifted a bottle to speak Boehner and it made the CNN news!
The Altero was made from a selection of the best wine in the cellar. Aged for just 2 years in 500L French oak barrels, and then bottle aged for another 2 years prior to release, the 2012 vintage is definitely cellar worthy. Juicy red currants, cherries, and sprigs of fresh rosemary are robed in vanilla and baking spice with just a wisp of smoke. Best with BBQ or lightly smoked meats and cheeses.
